The west facing windows were receiving significant heat during the summer months, radiating heat inside the rooms. By installing awnings over these windows, it stops the sun hitting the glass, and then reduces the heat radiating through the glass windows into the house. A significant heat reduction inside happens, when the sun is protected from the glass.
