This balcony faced directly at the setting westerly sun. On a hot summers day, it was too hot on the deck for the residents to enjoy the outdoor balcony area. A motorised retractable folding arm awning was ideal for creating shade over the deck area, and also to provide shade for the front windows, thereby reducing internal heat by stopping the sun hitting and heating up the sliding door glass panels.
